How Citizens Advice Bureau Advisers Can Help
There are various ways that CAB advisers can assist individuals to resolve problems. Advisers don’t tell clients what to do, but explain their options and the possible outcomes of different courses of action. Clients are encouraged to make their own decisions and act on their own behalf. We enable clients to manage their problems by focusing on their needs as individuals.
Generalist Advisers can:
- Interview clients face-to-face and by telephone to find out what their problem(s) are. By accessing our electronic information system, they can quickly provide up to date information and advice.
- Assist clients to negotiate with creditors, or to appeal social security benefit decisions, for example, by drafting letters to such organisations.
- Aid clients with form filling, for example, to claim for social security benefits. The can also provide benefit checks, ensuring that individuals are receiving their full entitlements.
- Refer clients to Coatbridge Citizens Advice Bureau internal specialist caseworkers for more complex problems or to other agencies where appropriate.
