Service

General Service

Coatbridge Citizens Advice Bureau is an independent charity. Our service is free, independent, impartial and confidential. We are based in Coatbridge town centre and operate outreach advice sessions at various locations both in and out with the town. We can offer advice in person, by telephone, letter, fax and email.

The Bureau seeks to provide advice to the community, in all its diversity, to all its needs, and endeavours to ensure that residents are aware of the assistance and services available to them.

General Advice

Coatbridge Citizens Advice Bureau operates from its offices in The Fountain Business Centre. The Bureau currently operates a ‘drop in’ service.  Appointments are available for our specialist workers. Our telephone line is staffed by a receptionist/trained advisor during our opening hours. You can find more information about our opening hours on our Home Page.

If you would like to contact us in writing you can email, fax or write to us at our office in the Fountain Business Centre. Please include your full postal address in your correspondence. If you require advice quickly then please attend one of our drop in advice sessions available Monday to Friday (see opening times).

Advice can also be found at www.adviceguide.org.uk

How Citizens Advice Bureau Advisers Can Help

There are various ways that CAB advisers can assist individuals to resolve problems. Advisers don’t tell clients what to do, but explain their options and the possible outcomes of different courses of action. Clients are encouraged to make their own decisions and act on their own behalf. We enable clients to manage their problems by focusing on their needs as individuals.

Generalist Advisers can:

  • Interview clients face-to-face and by telephone to find out what their problem(s) are. By accessing our electronic information system, they can quickly provide up to date information and advice.
  • Assist clients to negotiate with creditors, or to appeal social security benefit decisions, for example, by drafting letters to such organisations.
  • Aid clients with form filling, for example, to claim for social security benefits. The can also provide benefit checks, ensuring that individuals are receiving their full entitlements.
  • Refer clients to Coatbridge Citizens Advice Bureau internal specialist caseworkers for more complex problems or to other agencies where appropriate.
